Scholarship preparation for year 8 entry
Background
Each year, the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) produces four distinct examinations which are used for scholarship selection and entry to certain secondary schools in Australia.
These are the:
| ACEP |
Australian Co-operative Entry Program |
| CSTP |
Co-operative Scholarship Testing Program |
| PSP |
Primary Scholarship Program |
| SST |
Scholarship Selection Test |
The ACEP is the most widely used test for scholarship selection into secondary schools for students in South Australia. See the ACER website http://www.acer.edu.au/tests/scholarship.html for a complete list of participating schools. The results of this examination conducted in late March or early April for Year 7 students are used to determine the award of academic scholarships for entry into Year 8.
The award of a scholarship based on the results of this examination is of considerable financial advantage to families intending to send their children to these schools.
Depending on the school, the scholarship may be for partial or full remission of fees for the time the awardee attends that secondary school.
Who might undertake a Scholarship Preparation Program for the ACEP
The Scholarship Preparation Program is suitable for most Year 6/7 students whether or not they intend to undertake the scholarship examination.
Scholarship Preparation Program at the International Academy of Education
With its unique focus on literacy, numeracy and problem-solving, the Scholarship Preparation Program for the ACEP provides valuable learning support for any student - from the ‘struggler’ to the most ‘gifted’ - as it provides focus, consolidation of basic skills, direction and challenge for young minds about to enter secondary schooling.
Scholarship preparation for the other ACER tests is also available should there be a need for it.
Sessions
The scholarship preparation program is conducted using small groups of students (max. 10) with a qualified teacher/tutor for 1×2 hr session per week. Individual tuition is possible, but group learning provides a more enriching and interactive educational experience.
Total program length is 20 weeks. There are three units offered. Students may undertake 1-3 units, depending on their circumstances. Each unit is stand-alone, but complementary with the other two.
