IELTS preparation at the International Academy of Education
The IELTS preparatory course for adults or senior secondary students follows a similar format to the IELTS tests.
Units focus on:
| Listening with the use of |
T.V., radio, recorded conversations, monologues, interactions using a variety of accents and dialects to extend students’ understanding of the spoken language. |
| Reading with the use of |
texts taken from books, magazines, newspapers, journals, advertisements and instruction manuals to develop students’ ability to understand and use written information.
|
| Writing with the use of |
reports, charts, diagrams, letters, tables, responses to an opinion, or problem to enable students to discuss issues, challenge other ideas and present an argument using the appropriate tone and register. |
| Speaking with the use of |
interviews in one-to-one or small group situations, answering questions and presentation of talks on familiar topics. |
The focus of course materials in the Reading and Writing Units varies according to whether the student is undertaking Academic or General Training. The Listening and Speaking Units are the same for Academic training and General Training.
Academic Training assesses whether students are ready to study at University level in the medium of English.
General Training emphasises general skills for living in a broader social and educational context and is suitable for students for immigration purposes, training or work experiences programs and for students wishing to complete their secondary education in an English-speaking country such as Australia.
